Lavoi is a dictation app that runs on your Mac. What you say is turned into text and tidied on your Mac, and it stays there. This page says exactly what the app keeps, what it downloads, and what this site and your email know about you.
What the app does with your voice
- Speech to text and the clean-up run on your Mac. Lavoi sends no audio and no text anywhere. It has no account, no analytics and no crash reporting.
- Its models, once. The first time it runs, Lavoi downloads its models (about 1 GB) from Hugging Face. Like any download, Hugging Face sees the request and your IP address. After that, dictation works with the network off.
- Its updates. Once a day Lavoi asks updates.lavoi.app whether a newer version exists, and downloads it when there is one. The request carries the app's name and version and your IP address, which Cloudflare, the host, sees; nothing about what you say or your Mac is sent. Every update is checked against Lavoi's signature before it installs. Turn the daily check off in Configuration › Updates.
- What it keeps. Each dictation, so you can find it again in History: the recording, what you said,
what Lavoi wrote, and the prompt the clean-up was given, with any context the mode used. It is stored in
~/Library/Application Support/Lavoi, readable by your account only, and deleted after a month by default. You can keep it for as little as a day, and delete any of it from History.
What it reads, and when
- The microphone, only while you hold the key (or after you start a recording yourself).
- Accessibility, to hear Right ⌘ in any app and to put the text where your caret is. Modes that use context also read the window you type in (the app, the page address, the field and the names on screen) so names are spelled right; Super mode also reads the text you selected. Text read from the screen is never followed as an instruction.
- The clipboard. Lavoi pastes through it and puts back what you had copied. Super mode also reads what you copied just before you spoke, as context.
